About Tata Crucible - The Campus Quiz

Tata Crucible – ‘The Campus Quiz' seeks to bring together the sharpest young minds in UK to take on the heat of an exciting business quiz. The Quiz will make its debut in the United Kingdom on the 9th November 2008, at Imperial College, South Kensington Campus, London. Campuses across the UK will battle for the first time on a quizzing platform of this scale.

Tata Crucible was started as a key initiative in India in 2004, a year that was christened as the 'Century of Trust' year to commemorate the death centenary of the Founder of the Group - J.N. Tata and the birth centenaries of two of its illustrious leaders - J.R.D. Tata and Naval H. Tata. Youth is a key audience cluster which the Tata Group is focusing its communication at and Tata Crucible is one of the key initiatives towards this engagement.

It generated huge response as a high quality business quiz in the very first year and has now become an annual event in India. In a commissioned research Tata Crucible Campus Quiz has been judged as the highest rated ground quiz by students of participating colleges in India.

The Tata Crucible Quiz is a team based contest (2 participants per team) and is held in 3 parts. Two back to back tracks are held for corporates - separately for Tata Corporates in 8 cities and Non-Tata Corporates across 16 cities, followed by National Finals. The third track is held for Campus students each year also across multiple cities followed by a National Final. Over 3000 teams participated in the three tracks of the quiz held in 2007-08 in India.

The international edition of the Tata Crucible Quiz was launched in 2007 for campus students, in Singapore. The quiz was a huge success and is slated to get bigger and better with time. The 2nd edition of the campus quiz in Singapore is scheduled to take place in the month of October, 2008.

Having established Tata Limited in 1907 to represent the Group in Europe, Tata has grown to become the largest Indian employer in the UK, comprising 19 companies and a 47,000-strong workforce spread across the region.

Tata companies include some well-known brands in the UK, among them: Tetley Tea, Corus, Jaguar, Land Rover, Tata Consultancy Services, Quilon and The Bombay Brasserie. In addition, Tata Communications (formerly VSNL), Brunner Mond, Tata Motors and Taj Hotels are all significant players in their respective fields. The Tata Group has a long and cherished association with UK academia that dates back to the establishment of the Sir Ratan Tata Department at the London School of Economics in 1912.

In 1920 the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge moved to its current Trumpington Street site thanks to a donation from Sir Dorabji Tata, an alumnus of the institution. The site remains the prime location for teaching and much of the Department's research. Today, the Group continues to forge new links with the UK’s leading academic institutions. In 2008, it established the Tata International Social Entrepreneurship Scheme (TISES) in partnership with the University of Cambridge. In June, five Cambridge students visited India for an 8-week summer internship at different Tata community initiatives.
